Holly sets the scene

Not apple slices. Actual little apple stars, cut by a grown-up, served on a plate like they just stepped out of a limousine.

ADULT-ONLY STEP: all cutting and shaping is done by a grown-up. Knives and metal cutters press hard through apple. Kids do the arranging, the topping and the eating.

From Ginger's pantry

You'll need

  • 1 red apple, washed
  • Optional: plain yogurt for dipping
  • Optional: a shake of cinnamon
  • Optional: oats or granola sprinkled over
  • Optional: whatever suitable topping is already at home

Use what you've got

  • No star cutter? A grown-up can cut small triangles or simple chunks — they taste exactly the same.
  • Any apple works. Pear works too.
  • Yogurt, cinnamon, oats: use what's in the house, or none of it.

Aprons on

Let's make it

  1. GROWN-UP: cut the apple into thick flat slabs, then cut small stars from those slabs with a small star cutter or a paring knife. Save every offcut — they're for eating.

  2. Arrange the stars on a plate with the offcuts tucked underneath.

  3. Spoon yogurt beside them for dipping, if you're using it.

  4. Shake over cinnamon and scatter oats or granola on top.

  5. Serve straight away so the apple stays bright.
