Ginger makes it
Ginger warms the milk and does the whisking. Lovely stands beside the mug conducting marshmallow introductions.
Lovely matches it
One marshmallow bobbing alone in a mug is, according to Lovely, an emergency. The solution is always a second marshmallow.

From Ginger's pantry
You'll need
- 2 cups milk
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa
- 2 tablespoons sugar, adjustable to taste
- 1/4 cup chocolate chips or chopped chocolate
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- Marshmallows — heart-shaped if you have them, ordinary ones are perfectly fine
Aprons on
Let's make it
Warm the milk gently in a pot. A grown-up handles the stove for younger cooks.
Whisk in the cocoa and the sugar until smooth.
Stir in the chocolate until it melts all the way through.
Add the vanilla, pour into mugs and top with marshmallows.
Serve warm — and let it cool a moment before the first sip.
Cooking options
🔥 Stovetop — Ginger's Main Method
The milk is warmed gently in a pot — a grown-up handles the stove and pours the hot drink.
📡 Microwave — Ginger's Speedy Method
The batch makes about 2 cups, so a grown-up heats it in a large microwave-safe jug, or makes one mug at a time (1 cup milk, 1 tablespoon cocoa, 1 tablespoon sugar, 2 tablespoons chocolate chips, 1/4 teaspoon vanilla). Heat the milk on high in 45-second bursts, stirring between each one so it warms evenly and never boils over. Whisk in the cocoa and sugar until smooth, stir in the chocolate until melted, then add the vanilla and marshmallows. Stop as soon as it's steaming — overheated milk tastes flat and can erupt. The jug and drink get very hot: lifting, stirring and pouring are grown-up jobs, and let the mug cool a moment before the first sip.
Twin talk

- Lovely: “IT'S A MATCH!”
- Ginger: “You just doubled the marshmallows.”
- Lovely: “You're welcome.”
Contains: Milk. Always check the labels on your own ingredients with a grown-up.
