You'll need
- 1 cup pure maple syrup
- A tray of clean, packed fresh snow (or crushed ice, packed flat)
- Wooden craft sticks or clean forks

Let's make it
Pack a tray with clean fresh snow and put it in the freezer while you work.
Grown-up: boil the maple syrup in a deep pot until it reaches about 235°F (113°C) on a candy thermometer — roughly 8–10 minutes.
Grown-up: pour thin ribbons of the hot syrup across the cold snow.
Count slowly to ten while it sets and turns chewy.
Press a stick at one end and roll the taffy up. Eat it right away.
