LIGHTNING

Nobody remembers Lightning arriving at the North Pole.

They remember the flash.

They remember the BOOM.

And they definitely remember Santa asking:

“Does anybody smell burnt mittens?”

When the snow finally settled, there she was.

Chrome antlers.

Chrome-plated hooves.

Dark sunglasses.

And enough electricity running through her to make every elf's hair stand straight up.

Nobody knew where she'd come from.

Lightning wasn't saying.

She just looked at Santa over the top of her sunglasses.

ZAP.

Santa looked at the sleigh.

Then back at Lightning.

Then at the very long list of places he had to be.

“Think you're fast?”

Lightning lowered her sunglasses.

Her high-voltage eyes began to glow.

ZAP-ZAP-ZIP!

Three seconds later, Santa's sleigh was gone.

So was Santa.

So was Lightning.

And several elves were trying to figure out why their hats were suddenly on backwards.

⚡ LIGHTNING QUICK

Lightning isn't built for standing still.

Her chrome antlers crackle with electricity.

Her turbo thrusters hum.

Her hooves spark against the snow.

And when Santa gives the signal, Lightning doesn't just take off.

Lightning quick. Lightning strikes. Lightning quick delivery.

ZAP-ZAP-ZIP!

She pulls Santa's sleigh — The Northern Pole — through the Christmas sky, leaving a trail of electricity, light and the occasional slightly singed snowflake behind her.

How fast can she go?

Santa says there are regulations about answering that question.

Lightning says:

“Faster than the speed of light.”

The elves say that's scientifically impossible.

Lightning wears sunglasses indoors.

She isn't particularly worried about what the elves think.

⚡ IN A FLASH

There's fast.

There's reindeer fast.

And then there's Lightning.

Santa once told her:

“I'll see you in a flash!”

Lightning was already gone.

She came back.

“Too slow.”

ZAP!

Lightning adjusts her dark sunglasses.

“Some people say I'm flashy.”

She shrugs.

“But that's just me. It's my superpower.”

Around the North Pole, they've learned:

In the blink of an eye... Lightning strikes.

And if you actually see the flash?

You're already behind.

Then there's Thunder.

Thunder studies storms.

Thunder measures atmospheric disturbances.

Thunder explains things.

At length.

Lightning usually listens for about twelve seconds.

Thunder says together they're a fascinating example of interconnected atmospheric electrical and acoustic phenomena.

Lightning says:

“He talks. I strike.”

Santa learned one important rule very quickly:

Never pet an electrically charged reindeer without gloves.

Actually...

The gloves don't help much.

Santa still pets her.

Lightning still shocks him.

They both still laugh.

And when Christmas Eve arrives, Santa knows exactly who to call when he needs to get somewhere...

in a flash.
