From elfNsanta's pantry

You'll need

  • ½ cup softened butter
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • Maple glaze: 1 cup icing sugar
  • Maple glaze: 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • Maple glaze: about 1–2 tsp milk, as needed

Aprons on

Let's make it

  1. Cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.

  2. Beat in the maple syrup, the egg and the vanilla.

  3. In a separate bowl, mix the flour, baking powder and salt.

  4. Combine the dry mixture into the wet mixture until a soft dough comes together.

  5. Chill the dough in the fridge for about 30 minutes so it rolls neatly.

  6. Roll the dough out about ¼-inch thick on a lightly floured counter.

  7. Cut out snowflakes with a cookie cutter and set them on a lined baking sheet.

  8. Grown-up: bake at 350°F (175°C) for 8–10 minutes, then take the hot tray out.

  9. Cool the cookies completely — glaze on a warm cookie just slides off.

  10. Mix the icing sugar, maple syrup and a little milk into a smooth glaze, then pipe or spread it on.
